Moore School Food Pantry, Highland, alongside Temple Emmanuel, supports Moore Elementary School by providing a food pantry for students of Moore School and their families. For the month of July, we are asking for donations of cereal. We have busy this year and would love to have your help. Moore School Pantry Back-to-School Supply Drive: Highland is now accepting school supplies for students of Moore Elementary that are enrolled in our Food Pantry Program. We will be collecting items through August 2. Items needed are: backpacks, composition books, colored pencils, erasers (pencil top and rectangular ones), colored two pocket folders, washable markers, glue sticks, crayons, hand sanitizer, scissors, headphones, pencil pouches or pencil boxes. Thank you for helping to make sure these children start their new school year off in a positive way!
Forsyth Jail & Prison Ministry: Now through August 2, Highland’s Community Service Committee will be collecting hygiene items for the Forsyth Detention Center and the Forsyth Correctional Center. They have expressed a need of items for their supply closet that serves over 1,100 people. They have asked for full size bars of soap, full size stick deodorant, travel size toothpaste, and travel size shampoo. If you would like to donate items, please add them to the collection box in the Gallery Hallway. Thank you!
The Earth Care Committee is collecting used sneakers for the GotSneakers recycling program. This organization has developed this recycling program that helps to keep sneakers out of landfills and helps organizations raise funds. Please check your closets (and under your bed) for any unused sneakers that you wish to donate. You can place them in the box in the Gallery Hallway. Community Care Center on New Walkertown Road in Winston-Salem is a volunteer-based, free, non-profit healthcare clinic that treats the whole person and family. They provide health care services and medicines to uninsured patients who don’t qualify for federal or private insurance and have family incomes below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. Their medical, dental and non-medical staff donate over 10,000 hours annually. They have evening hours every Monday and Thursday. Churches from Salem Presbytery provide dinners for the volunteers each Monday. If you’d like to prepare and deliver a dinner for 20 people, please contact Debbie Cesta at debbie.cesta@habitatforsyth.org
Current needs at The Shepherd Center:
- Volunteers are needed for their Phone Pals and Card Connections programs (sending cards, making cards, making phone calls)
- For small groups that might feel comfortable working together outside, they have older adults that need help with yard work
- Items are needed for Door Drops and items vary from month to month
Current needs at Senior Services:
- Senior services can always use more hand sanitizer, bags to support contactless delivery, and other cleaning and protectives equipment such as masks, gloves, etc.
